On May 17, 2020, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was referred a sexual assault investigation involving a young child from Paterson Police Department. The investigation revealed that 67-year-old Julio Largo-Veletanga had sexually assaulted the 10-year-old victim in her home on multiple occasions during the period of February to May 2020. The investigation was opened when the victim reported the incidents to the Paterson Police Department.
On November 15, 2022, a jury convicted Julio Largo-Veletanga of First-Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, Second-Degree Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault, three counts of Second-Degree Sexual Assault, four counts of Second-Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Second-Degree Hindering Apprehension.
On June 15, 2023, the defendant appeared before the Honorable Joseph A. Portelli, J.S.C., at the Passaic County Superior Court, and was sentenced to 44 years in NJ State Prison and was subjected to the Jessica Lunsford Act. Upon release, the defendant will be subject to Megan’s Law and Parole Supervision for Life.
