Manhattan Man Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison For Gunpoint Robbery of Off-Duty Police Officer and Three Others
Eric Gonzalez, the Acting DA of Brooklyn made a public announcement about a Manhattan man, 24 who got a 12 years prison sentence as he robbed an off duty cop along with three other people at gunpoint when they were sitting in a parked car.
Gonzalez said that the defendant was found guilty of carrying out an armed robbery, endangering the lives of 4 men including a police officer and the sentence held him accountable for facing the music that came his way as a result of committing that crime.
The defendant was identified by the acting DA as the 24 years old resident of Manhattan named Tori Saunders. Ruth Shillingford, the supreme court justice of Brooklyn sentenced the defendant to 12 prison years along with a post release supervision of 5 years after he pleaded guilty last month to committing a first degree robbery.
The acting DA also elaborated the investigation according to which on the night of 28th July, 2015 at around 20:15 hrs, Saunders along with an accomplice got to a range rover in the Eastern side of New York. There were four men sitting in the rover when the defendant along with his accomplice raided the vehicle and stole different items including jewelry, cell phones and cash at gun point.
The investigation also revealed that the vehicle’s driver tried leaving the crime scene when the defendant and his accomplice initiated fire which resulted in damaging the vehicle and striking an NYPD Housing Bureau off duty cop named Tramine Oxley who was sitting in the vehicle. The driver than took the vehicle to the Brookdale Hospital where the shot cop got treatment for sustaining 2 gunshot wounds.
The defendant along with his accomplice took a blue BMW to flee the scene but the investigative team got a hold of the defendant’s finger prints from the rover which later matched him in the database. On the 30th of July, 2 days after the incident, the defendant got apprehended while passing through Nassau County as a result of a car stop and was later identified by Oxley as the assailant.
NYPD FID’s Detective named Michael Byrnes led the investigation and ADA Robert Schwartz representing the DA’s Trial Bureau Red Zone prosecuted the case under the command of ADA Joseph Alexis who is Red Zone’s former chief and DA’s Trial Division’s current chief.
