A police officer, on the force for six years, was charged with two counts of first-degree Possession of a Controlled Substance, and four counts of Official Misconduct. Nysia Stroud, 29, of Brooklyn, allegedly transported weed and cocaine around Washington Heights, receiving over two thousand dollars in payment.
The drug trafficking incidents took place from April to June 2017 after meeting with a undercover officer in March who was posing as a drug courier. She went as far as to brag about how she was a police officer to the undercover cop. Stroud allegedly told the officer she was prepared to use her police badge in the event she was stopped, in order to avoid being questioned or arrested and had the secret code “Shopping at Woodbury” to communicate during the exchanges.
She was arrested Tuesday and suspended of her position. She stood before a Manhattan Supreme Court Justice, wearing a hoodie covering her head, pleading not guilty. If convicted of the highest count, Stroud could face at least 8 years in state prison.
District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. announced, “As alleged in this case, the defendant is charged with participating in narcotics trafficking and carrying out the very bad acts she was entrusted to stop, undermining important public safety efforts to keep out streets safe, clean, and free of harmful, illegal drugs.”
All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
