On February 14, 2020, the River Edge Police Department received a tip that Cory Bensen was sexually abusing a juvenile in River Edge, NJ. The Bergen County Prosecutors Office Special Victims Unit was informed, and an investigation went underway. After the thorough investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the River Edge Police Department, Corey Bensen was arrested and charged with count of Aggravated Sexual Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1), a crime of the first degree; one count of Sexual Assault By Sexual Contact, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b, a crime of the second degree; and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), a crime of the second degree.
Bensen was transported to the Bergen County Jail to await his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ. The charges are accusations and the defendant will remain innocent until proven guilty. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is under the supervision of Chief Robert Anzilotti. The River Edge Police Department is under the supervision of Chief Thomas Cariddii. The prosecution into this case will be led by Mark Musella.
