On December 19, 2017, Wahiddudin Kimbrough and an unknown individual went into a Verizon store on broad Street and robbed it at gun point. Kimbrough stole $1,018, a phone, an iPad, and various sim cards. Both men fled the store while the victim called 911 from the bathroom.
After a thorough investigation, Wahiddudin Kimbrough was arrested by Newark Police Officers. While being processed, Kimbrough tried to escape from custody. Kimbrough was convicted of first-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy, and third-degree attempted escape. The State considered his age and prior convictions and asked for him to be sentenced to 31 years. Under the No Early Release Act, Kimbrough will not be eligible for parole until 85 percent of his sentence is served.
