Cheryle Lugo Sentenced for Fatal Shooting in 2019

Story by Ethan

Cheryle Lugo, 44, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for her involvement in a shooting that took place in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Lugo was convicted of conspiracy to murder which dictates that she must serve out at least 85% of her sentence before being eligible for parole. On October 15th, 2024, Lugo pleaded guilty to her conspiracy charge.

Estimated at around 11:40 p.m. members of the Elizabeth Police Department found Jamile Robins, 19, with a severe gunshot wound at the Oakwood Plaza Apartments. Robins was transported to the hospital where he shortly was pronounced dead. After further investigation it was discovered that Lugo was the driver of the vehicle involved in the shooting.

“While this sentencing does not bring Mr. Robbins back, we hope it comes as some small solace to his loved ones,” said Union County Prosecutor Daniel. “I commend the dedicated efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Cho, UCPO Detective Richard Acosta, Elizabeth Police Detective Edward Pinkevicz, and all of the UCPO Homicide Task Force members who worked tirelessly on this case.”
