Christopher J. Giglio Charged with Attempted Sexual Assault on a Minor

Story by Ethan

On December 17th, 2024, the arrest of Christopher J. Giglio was announced on counts of Attempted Sexual Assault, Luring, Child Endangerment, and the Production and Possession of Child Pornography and Child Abuse Material. An investigation was directed by Chief Matthew Finck and followed through by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, which led to Giglio’s arrest.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit was notified of a 12-year old messaging an adult male, via an online messaging application. The conversations taking place included various sexual content. The adult and juvenile only met through the internet on the aforementioned messaging application. On December 11th, 2024, the man was waiting in his idle vehicle outside the juvenile’s home, however, later fled once the child’s parents called the police to investigate the vehicle sitting outside their residence.

The incident was investigated by detectives in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, which uncovered the activity and messages sent on the online interactions between the male and the juvenile. Detectives were able to identify Giglio, and his actions that included sexually explicit conversations, and instructed the child to send nude photographs of intimate body parts. One undercover detective posed as the child online in order to continue chats with Giglio, which led to Giglio arranging another meet up with the child on December 16th, 2024, in Bergen County, New Jersey. On the specified date, Giglio was promptly arrested at the scene by the detectives investigating the case.

Following the arrest, Giglio was charged with first-degree Production of Child Pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)(3); two counts of second-degree Attempted Sexual Assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1) / N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(b); second-degree Luring, N.J.S.A. 2C:13-6a; third-degree Child Endangerment, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1); and third-degree Possession of Child Pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b)(iii). Giglio was held in Bergen County Jail, until his hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

The launched investigation into Giglio’s actions are still ongoing.
