Rehan Jahangir from West Windsor Charged for Involvement in Fatal Hit and Run

On September 17th, 2024, charges against Rehan Jahangir, 18, were announced by Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton, and West Windsor Police Chief Robert Garofalo. Rehan Jahangir was charged with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter, second-degree Vehicular Homicide (death by auto), third-degree Vehicular Homicide (strict liability), and fourth-degree Possession of a False Government Document

According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 3:49 p.m. on Sunday, August 20th, 2024, West Windsor Police responded to a motor vehicle crash that took place on Lanwin Boulevard in the Province Drive area. As officers arrived on the scene, they uncovered a 2024 Tesla Model Y that veered off the road into a tree and caused serious damage to the passenger side of the car. The officers extracted both occupants of the vehicle, and transported them to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the car, Daniel Haas, 18, passed away in the hospital on August 24th, 2024, because of his injuries.

Following the incident, an investigation was launched by the West Windsor Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team. The investigation revealed that Rehan Jahangir was driving the Tesla while under the influence of alcohol. Allegedly, Rehan Jahangir had a blood-alcohol content of 0.125 percent, and was speeding at 78 miles per hour on a road with a 35 miles per hour speed limit. Rehan Jahangir also was in possession of a fraudulent driver’s license at the time of the accident.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Rehan Jahangir are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
