NYPD Officer Hieu Tran of Yonkers, New York, Charged for Attempted Murder in Road Rage Fueled Shooting

On June 7th, 2024, the arrest of NYPD Officer Hieu Tran, age 27, was announced by Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Voorhees Township Police Chief Louis Bordi. Hieu Tran was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Aggravated Assault, and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, a multi-vehicle crash was reported in the area of Route 73 and Cooper Road, on May 17th, 2024, at approximately 11:13 p.m.. Officers from the Voorhees Township Police Department were dispatched to the scene, and they subsequently found one of the drivers suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was swiftly transported to Cooper University Hospital to be treated for injuries, from both the gunshot and the motor vehicle crash. 

An investigation was launched, and detectives were able to identify Hieu Tran as the individual responsible for shooting the aforementioned driver in a road rage incident. Evidence used to identify Hieu Tran included surveillance video, phone records, and ballistics evidence. The investigation was able to also link Hieu Tran to the exact weapon that was used, which was revealed to be his NYPD department issued firearm. 


The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Hieu Tran are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
