On June 13th, 2024, the arrest of Elijah Nunnally, age 27, was announced by Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and North Plainfield Chief of Police William Parenti. Elijah Nunnally was charged with first-degree Armed Robbery, second-degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose, and third-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, an armed robbery at a gas station on Route 22 was reported to the North Plainfield Police Department on September 30th, 2023, at approximately 4:50 a.m.. Responding officers met with the gas station attendant who was threatened by the assailant. The employee reported that the suspect pulled into the gas station and asked for his gas tank to be filled. A few minutes later the assailant exited his vehicle and pointed a gun at the attendant while demanding money. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash before he then fled the scene.
This incident prompted an investigation to be launched by detectives from the North Plainfield Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit. The investigation identified Elija Nunnally as the culprit, and he was subsequently charged on October 5th, 2023. Elija Nunnaly was held in Lehigh County Jail for an unrelated matter, and was then extradited to New Jersey and put in the Somerset County Jail on May 30th, 2024.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Elija Nunnally are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
