On April 11th, 2024, the arrest of Jose M. Cruz-Guzman, age 31, was announced by Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Raritan Borough Chief of Police Raymond Nolte. Jose M. Cruz-Guzman was charged with third-degree Aggravated Assault, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, a 911 call was made reporting an adult male suffering from a stab wound to his hand at approximately 3:57 a.m., on April 1st, 2024. Responding officers from the Raritan Borough Police Department located the victim, a Raritan resident, who reported that he had been stabbed by Jose M. Cruz-Guzman during a verbal altercation. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. An investigation was launched by detectives from the Raritan Borough Police Department, the New Jersey State Police – Somerville Barracks and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit. Detectives located Jose M. Cruz-Guzman in Raritan and he was arrested without incident.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Jose M. Cruz-Guzman are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
