Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. GREWAL announced the arrest of ADELBERT W. MAKLE (DOB: 04-05-77) of 217 East 26th Street, Paterson, New Jersey in connection to an Armed Robbery of a 7-11 convenience store located in Saddle Brook, New Jersey in May 2016. This arrest is the result of a two-month investigation jointly conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Investigations Squad under the direction of Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Chief Robert S. ANZILOTTI, and the Saddle Brook Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert KUGLER.
On May 10, 2016, at approximately 3:45 AM, an Armed Robbery was reported at the 7-11 on Market Street in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. It was reported that a male suspect entered the premises and approached a store employee and requested assistance locating an item in the rear of the store. As the employee walked over to assist, the suspect produced a large knife and demanded money. Unbeknownst to the actor, there was another employee working in the store at the time. Both employees were able to flee the store while the suspect attempted to open the cash register. A short time later, the suspect fled the store and the area.
During the month of July, additional evidence and further investigation led identified MAKLE as the person responsible for the Armed Robbery, at which time, an Arrest Warrant was authorized.
On July 15, 2016, MAKLE was located and apprehended in Newark without incident. MAKLE was charged with one count of Armed Robbery, a Crime of the First Degree; one count of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, a Crime of the Third Degree; one count of Possession of a Weapon, a Crime of the Fourth Degree; and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Crime of the Third Degree. MAKLE is currently lodged in the Bergen County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
