On January 22nd, 2024, the arrest of Alfonsina Anguita, age 21, was announced by Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Manville Borough Police Department Officer-In-Charge Lieutenant Craig Jeremiah. Alfonsa Anguita was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, a nearby hospital reported signs of abuse and strangulation on a three-year old child patient to detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. Medical personnel determined through further investigation, marks were found that supported earlier signs of strangulation. Detectives interviewed the victim, and learnt that they had received the injuries while under the care of Alfonsina Anguita in Manville, New Jersey. An investigation was conducted to look into the incident, which resulted in the arrest of Alfonsina Anguita in Somerville, without incident on Thursday, December 21st, 2023.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Alfonsina Anguita are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
