Bronx District Attorney, Darcel D. Clark, announced today the sentencing of Dante Aderson, a Bronx man to 15 years in prison for loaded gun possession and for fleeing police on a chase until his car crashed into other parked cars.
Details of the Case
According to District Attorney Clark, the jury has given their sentence, any individual found with a loaded gun on Bronx streets will face the consequences. He opines that there is a need to end firearm proliferation that is determined to tear the community apart. He further revealed that in addition to having a gun, the defendant recklessly drove while fleeing the cops on a major roadway until he crashed into several parked cars.
He went further to elaborate that the defendant, Dante Aderson, of 36, and resident of 2850 Grand Concourse, was sentenced to second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon and third-degree Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. The defendant was prosecuted before a jury trial on September 27, 2023, and sentenced on January 31, 2024. His sentence was before Bronx Supreme Court Justice, Raymond Bruce, where he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
Highlights of the Investigation
Investigation revealed that officers of the 52 Precinct’s Public Safety Team sighted a 2012 Range Rover recklessly changing lanes without signaling to other road users at about 1:00 am on October 28, 2021. The cops tried to pull him over, but the defendant drove off. The incident occurred near East 188th Street and the Grand Concourse. As Aderson drove recklessly, the police pursued him on the Grand Concourse for at least seven minutes. He reportedly threw a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol out of the window and crashed into several cars parked before running away. He was arrested by the police about a block away.
The prosecutors for the case were Assistant District Attorney, George Pikus, of Trial Bureau 60 and Major Case Assistant District Attorney, Scott G. McDonald. The prosecution was under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Trial Bureau 60, Michael Schordine, and the Chief of Trial Bureau 60, Susanna Imbo. The overall supervision of the case was handled by the Chief of the Trial Division, Theresa Gottlieb, and the Deputy Chief of the Trial Division, James Brennan.District Attorney Clark appreciated the assistance of Video Unit Supervisor Joao D’Alessandro and Trial Preparation Assistant Feven Dereje of Trial Bureau 40 in the case. He also thanked NYPD Officers Angela Merriot, of the Queens Special Victims Unit, Police Officer Julio Rosa of the Evidence Collection Team, Matthew Guerrido of the 52 Precinct, and NYPD Detective Milton Feliberty of the Bronx District Attorney’s Squad, among others.
