On 31 March, Jersey City man Carlos Burgos and North Bergen man Raul Torres entered guilty pleas on several counts of the indictment. Both defendants pled guilty to Aggravated manslaughter, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and weapons charges that lead to the death of David Duque-Soto in Fairview on June 29th,2019 stated by Mark Musella, prosecutor of Bergen County.
In this case involving multiple defendants, Carlos Burgos and Raul Torres are the last defendants to plead guilty after David Martínez was convicted of murder by a jury last month. Lexie Burke has already pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery with the state recommending up to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison. Torres and Burgos are also subject to a 30-year penalty under the NJSP, subject to the No Early Release Act, as a condition of their plea.On 29 June 2019, the four defendants entered the apartment of David Duque Soto with the intent of stealing from him. Soon after, three shots were fired in the apartment causing Soto’s death. Police arrived at the scene pronouncing Soto dead with gunshot wounds. Burgos and Torres pleaded guilty to entering the apartment with firearms and shooting the deceased.
