On February 5th, 2024, the arrest of David C. Shroitman, age 27, was announced by Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Somerville Chief of Police Dennis Manning. David C. Shroitman was charged with first-degree Murder, third-degree Possession of a Weapon, fourth-degree Tampering with Physical Evidence, and third-degree Hindering Apprehension.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, a 911 call was made at approximately 10:20 p.m., on January 30th, 2024, reporting an injured and unconscious female outside of a residential area on North Bridge Street, Somerville, New Jersey. Responding officers located the female, and were able to identify her as 27-year old Mary Rose Fealey. Officers administered life-saving treatment alongside responding medical personnel, however, Mary Rose Fealey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, detectives from the Somerville Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigations Unit, and Medical Investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to conduct a joint investigation. Several stab wounds were identified and the manner of death as homicide. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office concluded that David C. Shroitman was responsible for the stabbing and death of his former classmate, stabbing her over thirty-five times.
On February 4th, 2024, detectives obtained a search warrant from the Somerset County Superior Court. After 11:00 p.m., officers executed the search warrant, and subsequently detained David C. Shroitman after locating him in his residence.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against David C. Shroitman are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
