Salvatore DiStefano, a former Oratory Prep chaplain, was charged with engaging six students. The investigation into the case was led by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. After a thorough investigation, it was revealed that DiStefano frequently attempted to speak with the students about sex and instructed a student to masturbate to relieve stress.
Salvatore DiStefano also allegedly made repeated attempts to lure a student away from school and took steps to conceal the activity. The investigation also showed that DiStefano would give his personal cell phone number to club members, and routinely contacted them outside of school hours. The investigation revealed that in 2019, DiStefano would allow students to consume edible items infused with marijuana in his office.
Salvatore DiStefano also allegedly purchased tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) cartridges, which students would smoke in DiStefano’s office and provided students with money so they could purchase the items. Along with many other heinous acts, DiStefano was charged with five counts of second-degree use of a juvenile to commit a crime and six counts of Third-Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. DiStefano was arrested without incident. He is awaiting his first appearance and detention hearing in Union County Superior Court. The charges are accusations, and the defendant will remain innocent until proven guilty.
