On April 23rd, 2024, charges against Hassan Battie, age 21, were announced by Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, and Gloucester Township Police Chief David Harkins. Hassan Battie was charged with first-degree Murder, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department were dispatched to a reported shooting at the LaCascata Residence on April 16th, 2024, at approximately 5:27 p.m.. Responding officers found a male victim, who was later identified as 24-year old Nasir Tart, suffering from a gunshot wound. Nasir Tart was pronounced dead on the scene, at approximately 5:50 p.m.. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and detectives of the Gloucester Township Police Department launched an investigation following the incident. Detectives identified Hassan Battie as the assailant, and he was subsequently charged.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Hassan Battie are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
