Union City Resident Arrested and Charged for Theft by Deception and Forgery

Back in September 2017, a resident of Allendale was waiting for a check issued by the State of New Jersey, however it had been stolen and never made it to the resident’s home. The resident reached out to the Allendale Police Department, at which time they worked together with the BCPO (Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office) to resolve the situation.
Law enforcement determined that HECTOR O. TEJADA, a United States Postal Service Mail Carrier stationed out in Dumont, New Jersey, had stolen the check and deposited it into his own personal bank account. After looking into Mr. TEJADA even further, police officers were able to determine that he had stolen nine (9) checks worth in excess of $8,000.00. Hector TEJADA was able to deposit the checks into his account by forging the names of the victims (check receivers) on the back of each check. He then would use automated teller machines and deposits by way of his cell phone.
On December 12th, 2017, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of HECTOR TEJADA on Theft by Deception and Forgery charges. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allendale Police Department worked together in this investigation. Mr. TEJADA was found and arrested in Dumont, New Jersey.
Mr. TEJADA was charged with Third-Degree Theft by Deception and Third-Degree Forgery and is set to appear at the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court on December 27th, 2017.
All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
