In slightly over the span of one month, Jermaine Mason, 39, robbed five different banks in New Jersey in the fall of 2016. He had a history with bank robberies, for which he was convicted in 2006 and 2007.
While on federal supervised release, Mason carried out the series of bank robberies without showing a weapon, rather, each time either with verbal threats demanding cash or by passing the tellers a note demanding they hand over money in increments of $100 bills.
Jermaine Mason, otherwise known as “Asim Harris”, was charged with and has pleaded guilty to the following five bank robberies that amounted to a total of approximately $15,000:
Kearny Bank, in Harrison NJ on October 21, 2016
PNC Bank in Jersey City, on November 3, 2016
Popular Community Bank in Newark NJ, on November 17, 2016
Provident Bank, in Jersey City NJ, on November 18, 2016
Provident Bank, in Kearny NJ on November 29, 2016
Mason could not run for long, and his arrest was prompt the next day after his last robbery on November 30, 2016. He has been in state custody since. Each charge has the potential to amount to a maximum 20 year prison sentence with a quarter of a million dollar fine. His sentencing will be held August 29 by US District Judge William J. Martini.
