In September 2014, Jesus Restrepo was revealed to have sexually assaulted two children, one 13-year-old and one 12-year-old, following as investigation led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department.
Although Restrepo was charged, he fled the country prior to any arrests. The defendant was formerly from Englewood, NJ. On May 31, 2017, the defendant was indicted on two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault in the first-degree, two counts of Sexual Assault in the second-degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the second-degree.
On February 8, 2020, almost three years later, Restrepo was found and arrested in Columbia following an Interpol Red Notice. Restrepo had been detained and was awaiting to be moved back to the United States. On January 19, 2023, the U.S. Marshals transported the defendant to the Bergen County Jail, where Restrepo was awaiting his arraignment and detention hearing. The hearing was scheduled for the morning of January 27, 2023. On January 26, 2023, the following week, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella formally announced Restrepo’s arrest to the public.
All charges are merely accusations; all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
