On May 22nd, 2024, the arrest of John Dowd, age 56, was announced by Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Morristown Police Chief Darnell Richardson. John Dowd was charged with first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, on May 15th, 2024, they were notified of a sexual assault incident taking place on May 9th, 2024, in George Gramby Memorial Park. A four-year old boy reported to law enforcement that he was sexually assaulted while in the park. The report prompted an investigation to be launched, and subsequently John Dowd was identified as the culprit. John Dowd was swiftly located and apprehended, thereafter being charged on May 15th, 2024.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against John Dowd are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
