Newark Man Found Guilty for Murdering Woman

On May 5, 2014, in the vicinity of 84 North Munn Avenue, a woman named Amera Bell, a thirty-five (35) year old Newark resident, was shot by a man named Kanem Williamson, a twenty-two (22) year old Newark resident, eleven times by a firearm. Of those eleven bullets, five of them hit Bell. Of those five bullets, one struck her spine and left her in a paralyzed state. The bullet severed her spine and left her in a state where she was unable to leave the hospital bed for eleven (11) months. Bell ultimately passed away on April 7, 2015 as a result of problems from the gunshot wounds.
On October 13, 2017, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced that a jury has convicted Kanem Williamson of aggravated manslaughter for shooting a woman at the Bradly Court Housing Community in Newark, New Jersey. Trial was held before the Superior Court Judge Siobhan Teare. The charges that Mr. Williamson has been convicted of are First-Degree Aggravated Manslaughter, which is a sentence of 10 to 30 years in N.J. State Prison. Williamson was also convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
A sentencing hearing for Williamson been set for December 1, 2017.
