Paterson Resident Charged with Aggravated Arson and Weapon Possession

Charges were brought against an individual, KENNETH SMITH, 46, by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for Aggravated Arson and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. By way of a dual effort led by Chief Robert Anzilotti (Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office) and Chief Glenn Cauwels (Fair Lawn Police Department), law enforcement were able to make the arrest.
On June 27, 2017, an emergency call reached the Fair Lawn Police Department about an office overcome with fire. Thankfully, firefighters were able to maintain the fire at the front of the office and it did not spread to the rest of the building. Investigation revealed that a male was responsible for the cause of the fire by way of a Molotov cocktail type device.
The joint investigation led to KENNETH SMITH being arrested on October 13th, 2017, in Paterson, New Jersey, and charged with Second-Degree Aggravated Arson and Third-Degree Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. Mr. Smith will be held at the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance at the Central Judicial Court on October 16, 2017.
