Giandomenico Recupero, a Union Delegate and Foreman Barred from Waterfront for Thefts from Red Hook Container Terminal and Fraud

The Commission ordered for the elimination of “special craft” longshoreman Giandomenico Recupero from the waterfront by accepting his request for the surrender of his longshore registration with prejudice.

Red Hook Container Terminal employed Recupero as the foreman of container crane mechanics. A Notice of Hearing charged Recupero with stealing while employed as foreman, by using his employer’s credit card to purchase $4,527.48 of goods for his own personal use or benefit without authorization. Recupero also told other crane mechanics to work on his boat instead of the doing the work that they hired them to do.

Recupero was also charged with committing fraud, during a sworn interview by wrongfully denying that he directed mechanics to perform work on his boat. He was further charged with untruthfully denying that he ordered one of the mechanics to buy items for Recupero’s private use with his employer’s credit card.

The Notice of Hearing alleged that Recupero’s attendance on the piers or other waterfront terminals in the Port of New York posed a hazard to the public safety and peace because he misused money from Red Hook Container Terminal and committed fraud during a sworn interview.

The case against Recupero was the product of an investigation by the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.
