Miguel Abarentos Extradited from Philippines and Charged for Murder of His Employer
NYC District Attorney Cyrus Vance announced the indictment of 29-year-old Miguel Abarenos for the 2012 murder of his 87-year-old employer. Abarentos is accused of beating his elderly employer to death with a lamp, and leaving him for dead inside his Murray Hill apartment. According to court record statements, Abarentos was employed by the victim, Thawerdas Sadhwani, for only three months before the alleged incident. Abarentos is charged with Murder in the second degree.
The indictment states that there is video showing Abarentos entering and leaving the apartment of his employer on the day of the murder.
Additionally, Abarentos sent a Facebook message to a friend later that day, stating, “I killed someone…I need to go home.” Abarentos flew to the Philippines the next day, while a housekeeper found the victim’s body and called the police. “Miguel Abarentos is accused of brutally murdering his 87-year-old employer, and fleeing to Southeast Asia in a failed attempt to evade accountability,” said District Attorney Vance. Abarentos was arrested in the Philippines on June 20, 2016 and was extradited to the United States. He is currently being held without bail.
