Two Carteret Residents Plead Guilty to Homicide

On December 18, 2017, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office announced the guilty plea of two Carteret residents, Miguel Delgado Benitez and Juan Marrero Cardona, for murder. Miguel Delgado Benitez is a twenty-two (22) year old resident of Carteret, New Jersey and Juan Marrero Cardona is a thirty-three (33) year old resident of Carteret, New Jersey.
On December 6, 2016, a man named Briccio Guevara, sixty-three (63), was shot at the front entrance of his home. Neighbors heard the gun shot and immediately contacted law enforcement. Briccio Guevara was taken by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he died shortly thereafter.
Miguel Delgado Benitez pled guilty to Aggravated Manslaughter and Juan Marrero Cardona pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery. According to the plea agreement they approved, Benitez will be sentenced to twenty-five (25) years in N.J. State Prison and Cardona was sentenced to ten (10) years in N.J. State Prison. Pursuant to the No Early Release Act, both Miguel Delgado Benitez and Cardona must serve 85% of their sentence before being eligible for parole.
They will both be appearing at the Superior Court of New Jersey on March 2, 2018 in New Brunswick in front of the Honorable Judge Benjamin Bucca for sentencing.
All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
