NYPD Officers Charged With Falsifying Court Documents

Two NYPD officers – Sasha Cordoba, 33, and Kevin Desormeau, 33 – were charged by the District Attorney’s Office for making false statements in court documents and during court proceedings reagrding a 2014 Manhattan arrest. Both officers were also charged with conducting illegal searches. Cordoba and Desormeau were indicted for Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree and Official Misconduct.

According to court proceeding documents, the two NYPD officers, Cordoba and Desormeau, arrested 38-year-old Jamal Choice for possession of a handgun. Both officers stated to their supervisor, and officially documented, that they had witnessed Choice threatening another man with the gun, and that they confiscated the gun from the man’s waistband during the arrest.

According to Choice’s statements, the officers illegally entered his apartment without a warrant, and stated a neighbor had been threatened with a gun. Although supposedly Choice told the officers this was untrue, he stated the officers threatened to take away his children if he did not divulge the location of the gun in his apartment.

Later, several media sources revealed the inconsistencies in Cordoba and Desormeau’s statements and reports. Text messages between Desormeau and another unnamed individual, along with surveillance video, shows the narrative to be false, and thus the search warrant and recovery of the firearm were unlawful.
