Cape May Superior Court, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherlandand Chief of Detectives Paul Skill publicly revealed the arrest of Ocean City Township Police Officer Jacob M. Harris. Jacob Harris, is a 32 year old resident of Egg Harbor Township. He is employed by the Ocean City Police Department.
This incident call to light on or about January 26th, 2022, when Police from the Lower Township Police Department was called to a residence for a report of a GPS Monitoring and tracking device that was found on a vehicle. When the Lower Township Police investigated the GPS tracking device, the police determined that device was connected to Jacob Harris. Because of the special circumstances of a Ocean City Township Police Officer being accused of a crime, this case was handled by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Unit, similar to an Internal Affairs Department.
The following day, the Cape May Prosecutors Office charged Police officer Jacob Harris with charged with one count of Stalking. Stalking is an indictable offense. Stalking is a Fourth-Degree Indictable offense punishable by up to 18 months in State Prison, plus a fine of up to $10,000. Harris was arrested on Summons Complaint without incident. He was released on the summons pending Central Judicial Processing Court. According to the Ocean Township police Department, Jacob Harris is currently on leave pending the outcome of his criminal proceedings.
