On May 29th, 2024, the arrest of Rajinder S. Randhawa, age 36, was announced Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Warren Township Chief of Police Robert Ferreiro. Rajinder S. Randhawa was charged with third-degree Insurance Fraud.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, an alleged insurance fraud case was investigated by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit. The investigation revealed that a fuel delivery trucking company was suspected of misrepresenting their location on a commercial auto policy application. The company owned eight trucks and claimed on the application that they were garaged in Bridgewater, New Jersey. However, in reality, they were being garaged in Linden, New Jersey, where insurance is more costly.
The discrepancy prompted an investigation to be launched, and it was revealed that Rajinder S. Randhawa was the owner of the trucking company. Allegedly Rajinder S. Randhawa falsely reported the location of the company’s garage in order to pay a lower premium on the insurance policy that was purchased. Within a six month time period, Rajinder S. Randhawa hid charges of up to $231,431.00 that he should have paid the insurance company, if he accurately filled out the insurance application.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Rajinder S. Randhawa are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
