On November 6, 2017, the Essex County Superior Court Judge Siobhan Teare sentenced Sandro Vargas, a forty-six (46) year old resident of Irvington, to thirty (30) years in N.J. State Prison for the murder of Particia Hiciano.

Back in March 2015, a thirty-seven (37) year old woman named Patricia Hiciano was strangled and killed. Police began an investigation after her family reported her missing when she did not return from her job. Approximately four (4) days later, police officers located Ms. Hiciano at the address of South 20th Street, Newark, New Jersey in an apartment. Ms. Hiciano was strangled to death. The investigation discovered that a romantic relationship is what connected the victim and the defendant.

On September 11, 2017, the Essex County jury convicted Mr. Vargas of First-Degree Murder. The Honorable Judge Siobhan Teare sentenced Vargas to thirty (30) years in N.J. State Prison before he is eligible for parole.

All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
