Thomas E. Carter of Franklin Township, New Jersey, Arrested for Connection to Murder

On March 28th, 2024, the arrest of Thomas E. Carter, age 61, was announced by Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather. Thomas E. Carter was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon

According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, security personnel from a local trauma hospital alerted Franklin Township Police of a victim with an alleged stab wound, at approximately 8:03 p.m., on March 24th, 2024. The victim underwent emergency surgery for their life threatening injuries. Following their recovery from the surgery, the victim was interviewed by detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department, and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit. The interview revealed that a verbal altercation arose between the victim and the suspect around the area of Hamilton Street in Franklin Township, in the evening of March 24th, 2024. Detectives were able to identify Thomas E. Carter as the alleged assailant who committed the stabbing. 


The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Thomas E. Carter are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
