Keith O’Connor was arrested and charged in a “shots fired” incident that occurred in Washington Township.

The investigation into the case was a joint effort orchestrated by the Washington Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
On March 30, 2020, members of the Washington Township Police Department responded to a call to perform a welfare check of a suicidal male on rock road. When officers arrived at the scene, Keith O’Connor, age 49, allegedly fired a shotgun in their direction.
Washington Township Police officers did not fire back. After a thorough investigation, it was revealed that O’Connor possessed an assault firearm, large capacity ammunition magazines, and a controlled dangerous substance. O’Connor was charged with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, crime of the second degree; Aggravated Assault, a crime of the third degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, a crime of the second degree; Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, a crime of the fourth degree; and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a crime of the third degree. O’Connor is pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty under a court of law.
