Story by Ethan

On October 4th, 2024, charges against Rayvon Phillip, 18, were announced by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Rayvon Phillip was charged with second-degree Murder, and two counts of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated, “My office is committed to the prosecution and conviction of those who seek to unleash terror on our streets. According to the charges, the defendant indiscriminately fired multiple times outside a fast-food restaurant in Springfield Gardens and killed an 18-year-old seated in a car. This was a completely senseless act of gun violence, and we will aggressively investigate and prosecute those that destabilize our communities.”

According to the Queens District Attorney Office, between 10:15 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., on September 27th, 2024, security footage showed Rayvon Phillip outside the McDonald’s location at 221-12 South Conduit Avenue in Springfield Gardens, Queens New York. Footage depicts a car driving by the restaurant with four male individuals, including the victim, eighteen-year old Akim Cisse. Rayvon Phillip allegedly pointed a firearm at the vehicle and fired three shots. One of the bullets hit Akim Cisse in the back of the head. Akim Cisse was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Rayvon Phillip are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
